Inspired by the sensual liquid movements & always influenced by the music, Audra’s belly dance style is truly her own.  A unique blend of strength & delicacy, emotion & power, the classic & the innovative, Audra strives to bring a new understanding of the possibilities belly dance offers to her students and audience alike.

She is an energetic and generous teacher in both workshops and classes.  As well as providing a solid foundation to her students, Audra’s goal is to assist students in finding their own dance voice so that they can express themselves fully.  Regular practice, proper posture, isolation & movements refinement and open-mindedness are concepts instilled in her students.

Since beginning classes in January 2000, Audra’s desire to learn in never ending as she continues to expand her knowledge through inspiring artists and dancers.  Having studied extensively with such world renowned dancers as Yasmina Ramzy (Toronto), Rachel Brice, Carolena Nericcio, and Suhaila Salimpour (San Francisco), Audra has developed technique which integrates many aspects of her teachers along with other innovations to make a unique and innovative style.

She teaches weekly classes and workshops at her Toronto studio, The Dark Side Studio, which was established in 2007.  The first studio of its kind in Canada, The Dark Side is dedicated to non-traditional belly dance.  Audra is also in high demand outside Toronto, and regularly travels to teach and perform.  She also hosts intensive workshops and retreats several times per year.

Since producing her first show in July of 2005, Audra has sponsored many US based dancers, such as Rachel Brice, Mardi Love, Sharon Kihara, Kami Liddle, Ariellah, Mira Betz, Suhaila Salimpour and Ansuya, for workshops and shows.  In addition, along with Rosanna McGuire, began Toronto’s first alternative belly dance performance nights.  These evenings, now produced entirely by Audra and called Inversion, are twice yearly shows which present local professional and aspiring amatuer dancers  creating outside the belly dance box.

Audra is the founder and artistic director of Lavish Dance Company which operates out of The Dark Side Studio.
